Dismissal from state government

    Hi,

    One of the prescreening questions in Taleo asks if the candidate has ever been dismissed from state government.  How does your agency proceed when a qualified candidate indicates that they have been dismissed?

    We require applicants to provide a full statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the dismissal, and then we determine whether further investigation is needed or whether the applicant should be allowed to proceed through the recruitment.

    We screen in our HRIS system to see if the ee was coded a no rehire and to review the candidates last performance eval.  If still employed with the agency, we reach out to the last manager.

    I would agree with both Jewel and Jamika's sentiments. In addition I might consider inquiring with the previous agency  HR professional if appropriate.

    We move forward, however, we ask for information surrounding the termination, and then make attempts to verify what has been submitted.
